LifeWorks: Active community supports
Community supports program for adults with disabilities in Maine
We believe in offering adults with disabilities or deafness the opportunity to live and work as independently as possible in their communities. Our direct support professionals in Augusta, Lewiston, Scarborough, Waterville and Westbrook provide skills training in independent living, work readiness, relationship building, self-advocacy and health.
LifeWorks now accepting new participants
Do you know someone who is interested in learning work skills, exploring technology, making new friends, learning new things like photography, art, nutrition, cooking, financial management? Do you know someone who enjoys camping, disc golf, or gardening? Goodwill is accepting new LifeWorks participants. We will work with each participant to set and meet individual goals while having fun and learning life skills. Our staff can work with clients who use any method of communication.

New, fun activities added to our programs
Our LifeWorks participants have been discovering new ways to learn and grow and become members of their communities. At LifeWorks, participants can learn job skills, take overnight adventure trips, go fishing, go camping, and more. We are excited to be offering many new activities for both in-person and online participants. Goodwill’s LifeWorks team always brings home medals at the Special Olympics as well – no athletic experience necessary. We’ll train you to be your best.
Job training and life skills practice
LifeWorks Active Community Supports recreates daily living scenarios with support from our staff. Participants are based primarily in the community learning and practicing how to navigate everyday situations like the grocery store, cooking class or community parks. Participants observe and explore jobs that may be of interest them. We believe in the power of work. Every person who wants to work can work. We will help you move from observing work to getting paid to do what you love.
We love to help our participants who want to work or who may already be working practice the skills they need to thrive at their jobs. We’ll talk about dressing for success, how to talk to co-workers and supervisors, how to speak up at work when you need help or something doesn’t seem right, and how to turn work friends into life friends.

Direct Support Professionals
Our direct support professionals help LifeWorks’ participants reach stability. We employ more than 200 direct support professionals who help participants work, participate in the community, and achieve their fullest independence. Our direct support professionals are all certified with training in CPR, First Aid, Welle and Certified Residential Medication Administration. Additionally, we have direct support professionals fluent in American Sign Language and trained in Alzheimer’s and dementia support. Our LifeWorks staff listen to your family’s needs, provide guidance and help your family succeed. We have no waiting lists. LifeWorks participants are active community members who go bowling, volunteer at local nonprofits, shop and hold jobs if they’d like to. We abide by Maine’s Home and Community Based Services regulations. To learn about your rights, read this HCBS information.
All programing is tailored to each person’s interests. We offer private pay, and Goodwill serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have funding under the Medicaid Waiver. Scholarships are available.
CARF Accreditation
We regularly analyze the performance of our programs by tracking and reporting efficiency and effectiveness outcome measures. We recently received our ninth Three-Year accreditation from CARF. The CARF Three-Year accreditation represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows the organization’s substantial conformance to the CARF standards.
