Portland’s Workforce Solutions Center moves, upskilling services still available

Workforce Solutions will move its program offices this fall. During the move, services will be in the community and online. Jobseekers who want to get free-to-them career trainings in high-demand fields will still have access to all programs. Workforce Solutions will close the 190 Lancaster Street program space on Friday, Aug. 30; there is not yet an open date for the new location at 56 Northport Drive in Portland while it gets built out.

“We’re excited to open a new space for job seekers, but as we move out of our old building there will be a gap in time where we’ll be meeting folks at cafes, in libraries, and online to help deliver important services,” said Dave Wurm, Senior Director of Goodwill’s Workforce Services. “It’s typical for us to meet folks out in the community and not in an office, even now. This shift will mostly affect people who want to drop in to use computers for their job search — those people can call or email us, and we’ll help find a solution.”

Workforce Solutions offers upskilling and job placements to Mainers who need support. That could be people who were laid off, unemployed, under-employed, new to the country, or young people without a college degree.

Anyone interested in accessing these free-to-them resources should fill out the intake form at https://workforcesolutionsme.org/inquiry-form

Workforce Solutions, operated by Goodwill NNE, is a service provider of Coastal Counties Workforce, Inc. Last year Workforce Solutions helped put thousands of Mainers into high-skill jobs in our community.
