Join our team in the scenic, close-knit communities in central New Hampshire, where you’ll help foster the emotional, social, and academic growth of 4th and 5th grade students. Innovative initiatives like Responsive Classroom, Morning Exercise Time and Neighborhood Meetings foster connections among students, enhance the school climate, and strengthen bonds within our K-5 community. Our dynamic curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire, aiming to instill a lifelong love of learning. By nurturing both the intellectual and emotional growth of our students, Salisbury and Webster Elementary Schools lay the foundation for future success and helps young minds thrive into well-rounded individuals.
Member Duties:
- Daily activities include: Mentoring students; Supporting students inside and outside the classroom; Organizing team activities; Support for students during Co-Curricular Activities; Working with the Student Leadership Team to support Student Voice and Student Choice at school; Peer mediation support; Academic support for students.
- The following potential outcomes are crucial for the holistic development of children at this age, and the impact of this support could positively influence students’ futures both in and out of school.
A. Emotional Growth Outcomes, including: Improved emotional regulation; Increased self-awareness; Enhanced self-esteem and confidence; Better coping skills; Resilience; Stronger emotional vocabulary; Improved peer relationships.
B. Social Growth Outcomes, including: Improved social skills; Stronger sense of empathy;
Increased teamwork abilities; Better conflict resolution skills; More positive peer interactions;
Increased social confidence; Leadership development.
C. Academic Growth Outcomes, including: Improved focus and attention; Higher academic performance; Increased intrinsic motivation for learning; Better time management and organizational skills; Stronger problem-solving skills; Improved study habits; Enhanced critical thinking.
D. Long-term Development Outcomes, including: Growth mindset; Increased sense of belonging; Better preparedness for middle school; Increased family engagement. - Combined, SES and WES have 47 students in 4th and 5th grades. Currently, 14 of the 47 students receive support through an Individualized Education Program or through a 504.
- We have a number of folks who will be working with and support for our AmeriCorps members, including: Stephanie Wheeler, Principal of both Salisbury and Webster Elementary Schools; Britt Clark, 4th Grade Teacher at Salisbury Elementary School; Jess Shankey, 5th Grade Teacher at Salisbury Elementary School; Cheri Perelli, 4th Grade Teacher at Webster Elementary School; Jaz Wyatt, 5th Grade Teacher at Webster Elementary School; Stephenie Horne, School Counselor at Webster Elementary School; Amber Crisman, School Counselor at Salisbury Elementary School;Erin Edes, School Social Worker for both Salisbury and Webster Elementary Schools; Becky Kennedy, Merrimack Valley School District System of Care Coordinator.
- We are hopeful to provide the following training to our AmeriCorps members: Responsive Classroom Core Training; High 5 Adventure Challenge Course Training; On-the-job training in
Instructional support for students, including Reading, Writing and Math support, as well as Peer Conflict Resolution.
In essence, we believe that working in our school environment provides a rewarding experience where team members can see the direct positive impact of their work on students’ emotional, social, and academic growth, all while being part of a supportive and innovative community.
