We are looking for an AmeriCorps VISTA member who is interested in helping our organization’s mission to ensure equal access to educational opportunities that address poverty in our community!
The mission of the Portland Public Schools is to ensure a challenging, relevant, and joyful education that empowers every learner to make a difference in the world. We build relationships among families, educators, and the community to promote the healthy development and academic achievement of every learner.
The Portland Public School’s Multilingual Multicultural Center serves language minority students and their families. Make It Happen (MIH) is an extended learning program, in its 9th year, for ELLs in grades 9-12, and operates in three PPS district high schools. MIH serves 450 students annually, pairing community volunteers with students to work on college readiness and academic excellence. The Family and Community Specialists, a team of translation and interpretation professionals who provide language access services to hundreds of ELL students and their families annually as well as cultural brokering both for the district and to the community. In our Family Welcome Center, we support newcomer families by registering their children for school, assessing their language proficiency, conducting health screenings, and providing American school orientation.
We are looking for an AmeriCorps VISTA member who is interested in helping our organization’s mission to ensure equal access to educational opportunities that address poverty in our community. The member will use problem solving and strategy; thinking through complex circumstances and assisting stakeholders in finding inclusive solutions to build capacity to reach our goals by:
- Being responsible for community outreach, parent engagement, and community partnerships.
- Managing data and information collected through events, activities, and engagement, including designing and tracking questionnaires and preparing reports on results.
- Organizing and coordinating events and activities for fundraising, parent engagement, community outreach, and assisting with related marketing and communication activities.
Benefits
- Bi-Weekly Living Allowance of $983.36/Biweekly
- Relocation Allowance of $750 plus $.40 per mile (for those moving more than 50 miles)
