Be part of the founding team at a bold new public school in Maine—mentor students, support tutoring and wellness, and help build a school rooted in equity, belonging, and real-world learning.

MOXIE Public Schools creates innovative learning environments that ensure every Maine student develops the skills, connections, and readiness to collectively flourish in a complex world. MOXIE is a nonprofit public charter school network launching a new regional, multi-site 6–12 school designed to serve Maine’s highest-need learners. In partnership with families and communities, MOXIE builds future-ready, learner-centered environments that reflect Maine’s growing diversity and evolving workforce needs. Our first tuition-free public middle and high school will open in South Portland in fall 2026. Over the next decade, MOXIE will grow to serve more than 2,100 students annually across the region.

The AmeriCorps member will expand the reach and effectiveness of our whole-child, relationship-centered school model by strengthening student connection, wellbeing, and access to individualized support. Serving as a Community Educator, the member will build strong relationships with students through small-group and one-on-one support during advisory and wellness blocks, coordinate targeted tutoring with instructional staff, and support social-emotional learning and community-building activities that foster belonging and resilience. The member will also help track student engagement and identify early signs of disconnection so the team can intervene early. These efforts directly advance our mission to ensure all students—especially those who are multilingual, highly mobile, or navigating complex life circumstances—develop the skills, support systems, and confidence needed to thrive. The role supports our core objectives of providing personalized support, strengthening advisory systems, and ensuring every student can access the relationships and resources needed for success.

In addition to AmeriCorps benefits, including a stipend, education award, and health insurance, site benefits include a housing stipend of $1000 per month, full participation in staff professional development, including multi-week onboarding, biweekly sessions, and optional learning opportunities throughout the year. Students and staff have access to daily meals and snacks during school hours, as well as school technology and workspaces, including a school-issued device, printer/copier, and quiet areas for work. Transportation support is provided for site-related travel, along with access to school wellness resources such as mindfulness programming, staff support, social events, and team-building opportunities. Upon successful completion of service, participants may also receive letters of recommendation and career mentoring from senior school leaders. Candidates must hold a college degree.

Public Health AmeriCorps

Goodwill NNE’s Public Health AmeriCorps program helps build the public health workforce in Maine and New Hampshire. We partner with health centers, substance misuse recovery centers, public schools and other types of agencies meeting public health needs to provide AmeriCorps members. Those members: engage youth in programs to prevent substance misuse; create food security programs, provide vaccination education, create community integration opportunities for people with disabilities, and research and implement public health interventions to meet the pressing public health needs of underserved communities. Members gain strong skills through their experiences and often get hired for professional public health positions immediately upon completion!
