Focus Area: Community Outreach, Outdoor Education, Poverty, Social Media, Youth

Help power a transformative nonprofit youth summer camp by mobilizing volunteers, engaging partners, and strengthening the community that supports kids!

Agassiz Village is a nonprofit youth development organization whose mission is to prepare young people for life’s journey. Since 1935, Agassiz Village has provided transformative summer camp and leadership experiences for children and teens from under‑resourced communities across Maine and Massachusetts. Each year, hundreds of youth come to our 330‑acre lakefront campus in Poland, Maine, where they build confidence, develop social‑emotional skills, discover new interests, and connect with caring adult mentors.

Our programs include a traditional overnight summer camp for children ages 8–13, a Teen Advancement Program that supports high‑school readiness and post‑secondary planning, and year‑round engagement opportunities that help youth stay connected to positive peers and role models. Agassiz Village is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every child can thrive regardless of financial circumstances. More than 90% of our campers receive full or partial financial assistance.

As a community‑centered organization, Agassiz Village relies on strong partnerships with volunteers, civic groups, corporate teams, and local neighbors who help prepare camp for the summer season and enrich the experience for our youth. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will work closely with our Development Team, Program Team, and community partners to strengthen these connections and support the systems that make our mission possible.

This position will build capacity by developing Agassiz Village’s volunteer engagement systems, strengthening partnerships with corporate groups, civic organizations, and local colleges, and creating sustainable processes for recruiting, training, and stewarding volunteers! You will coordinate volunteer events, support in-kind donation drives, and enhance internal communication tools that connect staff, partners, and community members.

The systems you build will allow us to expand the volunteer and resource networks that make it possible for hundreds of low-income youths to access safe, high-quality summer and year-round programs at no or reduced cost. Your work will increase organizational efficiency, deepen community support, and ensure more children facing economic hardship can experience the transformative opportunities Agassiz Village provides!
