Empowered Through Opportunity: Jonathan’s Workforce Journey
November 21, 2025
Jonathan is working toward a career as an electrician, a goal that has been his top priority since he discovered the field. His passion for electricity and determination to succeed make him stand out.
“I love electricity,” Jonathan said. “It’s something I’ve always loved, but I never thought I could put it into use helping people.”
He connected with Goodwill Northern New England through the Workforce Solutions program, which helps people identify goals, overcome barriers, and move toward meaningful employment. With guidance from his career advisor, Katie Lombard, Jonathan enrolled in Maine Electrical Institute’s online program.
“They have an amazing program for online schooling, and I feel really at home,” Jonathan said. “With the knowledge I’ve gained, I feel like I could be very supportive to an electrical master or journeyman, and that would not be possible without the support and friendliness of my workforce team.”
Before starting his electrical training, Jonathan worked at Bixby Chocolate, a family-owned business known for its handcrafted confections. Gordon McAleer of Bixby shared, “We’re absolutely delighted that John joined us back in September of 2024. He’s a quick learner, energetic, and gets along well with his peers. We’re so pleased that he is pursuing another career for himself in the electrical field, and we encourage him to continue his studies and reach his goals.”
Jonathan’s journey hasn’t been easy, but his determination has carried him through. “My journey has been a long one, even before I came to Maine,” he reflected. “Coming here made my journey so much more accomplishing and worthwhile.”
