Birindwa escapes conflict in Congo, finds work and stability with some support

Birindwa has faced many challenges in his life. He survived polio as a child in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). As an adult, he worked at a non-profit to help polio survivors with prosthetics.

Birindwa put his life in danger helping people with disabilities in the DRC, he said. Ultimately, he escaped the DRC to the US.

He arrived not knowing anyone. He didn’t know what to do or where to turn when he found Workforce Solutions. It was through this program he found a community of people who helped him find housing, English classes, job-training programs, and assisted him as he adjusted to a whole new culture.

Birindwa, who once ran for his life, is full of hope and gratitude for the future.
