Join our impactful team as a member of Goodwill NNE’s Public Health AmeriCorps (PHA) program and make a difference in the lives of underserved youth impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) in communities across Maine.

As a PHA member, you will implement best practices to build meaningful relationships with a diverse portfolio of youth facing unique challenges. Utilizing data-informed strategies, you’ll prioritize youth voice to enhance social and emotional skills. Engage youth in cohort-based programming that brings together a variety of backgrounds, fostering reliance on one another, inspiring problem-solving, and honing listening skills among peers.

Your role extends to creating safe spaces where youth can take risks, reflect, and share personal experiences in groups. By involving youth in experiential learning, you’ll empower them to discover their interests, explore new activities, and make decisions about their pursuits. Actively engage youth in setting and managing academic and life goals, breaking them down into manageable steps and guiding reflection on successes and challenges.

In Maine communities like Lewiston, Portland, Cherryfield, and beyond, you’ll work with New American youth, refugees, immigrants, and members of the Wabanaki tribe. These young individuals often face significant barriers to success due to past trauma, language barriers, and adapting to a new culture. As a Public Health Youth Development member, you’ll contribute to narrowing these gaps by increasing social and emotional skills and academic engagement among students in grades 4-12.

Your impact will be felt through evidence-based interventions developed and carried out in collaboration with community partner agencies. Through direct service to youth, you’ll not only make a difference in their lives but also contribute to the organizational capacity of these vital community partners.

Join us in placements across Greater Portland, Coastal regions, Lakes and Mountain areas, the Maine Highlands, and MidCoast, working with schools, community centers, and organizations dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of underserved youth. Apply now to be part of a team committed to creating positive change in the community through the Public Health AmeriCorps program.
