Embark on an exciting journey with the MEd in Secondary Education, a dynamic 36-credit, 13-month clinical Master’s in Education program that places you at the forefront of transformative teaching experiences. From day one, you’ll actively engage with students in grades 5-12, spending a full school year working alongside seasoned educators in local schools. This hands-on approach ensures that you not only earn a comprehensive education but also gain invaluable practical insights.
Throughout the program, you’ll have the unique opportunity to develop project-based learning activities and collaborate with middle and high school students in a stimulating summer learning program sponsored by SNHU. As a result, you’ll emerge not only with a Master’s degree but also with a Graduate Certificate in Trans-Disciplinary Competencies, complemented by STEM education badges acquired during your clinical coursework.
Enter the realm of teaching excellence with the Goodwill NNE AmeriCorps partnership, specifically the Manchester Excels program in collaboration with the Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) School of Education. This innovative initiative empowers aspiring teachers to turn their dreams into reality.
“I applied to the Manchester Excels program within an hour of hearing about it because it perfectly aligned with my desire for community engagement and working towards a teaching certificate and education degree,” says one participant. As a Manchester Excels AmeriCorps member, you’ll be co-enrolled in the Master’s in Secondary Education and initial licensure program, forging a path towards becoming a certified New Hampshire teacher.
Over 13 transformative months, you’ll engage directly with middle and high school students in the greater Manchester area, all while attending classes on campus to enhance your teaching skills. A dedicated faculty advisor, along with three professors at SNHU, and experienced on-site teachers, will provide unwavering expertise, support, and real-time guidance, ensuring you are well-prepared and confident as you step into your first classroom teaching position.
This comprehensive program equips you to become a certified classroom teacher in middle and/or high schools across five content areas. Beyond earning your master’s degree, you’ll also receive a certificate in trans-disciplinary competencies, including valuable STEM Education Badges. Cohorts begin each June, concluding in June of the following year, encompassing a full-time commitment as a clinical teaching assistant in a local classroom from September to June.
